Trails and Parks

Room to Breathe and Space to Play

With more than 30 parks citywide, a premier equestrian center at Wills Park, and a bold vision to ensure 77% of residents live within a 10-minute walk of a park by 2029, Alpharetta, Georgia, is setting the standard for outdoor accessibility and environmental stewardship. Over half of the city’s total acreage is shaded by a thriving tree canopy, reinforcing its commitment to preserving natural beauty.

At the core of Alpharetta’s vibrant outdoor culture is its dynamic trail network. The Alpha Loop seamlessly links four of the city's major districts, Downtown, Avalon, North Point, and NorthWinds, offering walkable and bikeable pathways to workplaces, shops, restaurants, and green spaces. Complementing the Alpha Loop is the Big Creek Greenway, a scenic trail system that spans multiple jurisdictions. Within Alpharetta, 12 miles of the Greenway invite residents and visitors to walk, run, cycle, or simply enjoy the serenity of nature.

With a powerful blend of conservation, connectivity, and community, Alpharetta stands out among Metro Atlanta’s outdoor destinations.

Alpha Loop Trail

The Alpha Loop

The Alpha Loop is a next-generation pedestrian trail system that offers easy access to the city’s dining, entertainment, offices, and neighborhoods, while supporting local wellness, environmental sustainability, and community fun. Part mobility solution, part community connector, Alpharetta’s famous Alpha Loop is a signature asset that links major districts and enhances the city’s small-town community feel.

The first completed segment of the Alpha Loop debuted in 2020, connecting Downtown Alpharetta to Avalon. Later, the Alpha Loop was extended through NorthWinds, linking offices to nearby neighborhoods, restaurants, and retail. Today, the trail is over 6 miles long, and a new connection to North Point Mall is currently under construction. Future phases include a direct connection to the Big Creek Greenway.

The Big Creek Greenway

The Big Creek Greenway is a multi-jurisdictional trail system that stretches through Roswell, Alpharetta, and into South Forsyth County, offering a continuous ribbon of nature and recreation across North Fulton. Since 1995, Alpharetta has actively invested in its portion of the Greenway, now featuring 12 miles of scenic, multi-use trails that meander through wooded landscapes and trace the banks of Big Creek.

This 12-foot-wide paved path is open year-round and welcomes walkers, runners, cyclists, and inline skaters alike. Whether you're seeking a peaceful escape or an energizing workout, the Greenway delivers a refreshing dose of the outdoors just minutes from the city’s core.

Wills Park

Wills Park has served as a beloved gathering space for the Alpharetta community for decades, growing and evolving alongside the city. Spanning 120 acres, the park features a 60-acre equestrian show facility, 10 baseball fields, the newly renovated Wills Park Pool, three playgrounds, six tennis courts, an 18-hole disc golf course, and abundant greenspace. It’s a dynamic destination that blends recreation, relaxation, and community spirit in one expansive setting.

Community Farm

The City of Alpharetta’s Recreation, Parks & Cultural Services Department oversees a vibrant Community Agriculture Program based at Old Rucker Farm and Park. This working organic farm provides free resources such as tools, seeds, seedlings, and educational workshops, along with opportunities for both individual and corporate volunteer engagement. In addition to fostering community involvement, the farm donates fresh produce to local food banks and nonprofit partners.

Old Rucker Farm also includes a Community Garden, where residents can rent raised bed plots to grow their own organic fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers.
