The City of Alpharetta’s Community Agriculture Program has been recognized with a 2025 Regional Excellence Award from the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) for its work at Old Rucker Farm. The farm received the “Great Place” designation, celebrating its role as a vibrant community hub for sustainable agriculture and education.
The ARC’s Regional Excellence Awards honor forward-thinking projects, places, and plans that can transform communities across metro Atlanta. Old Rucker Farm stood out for its innovative approach to community engagement and its alignment with Alpharetta’s long-term vision for local food systems.
“It’s an incredible honor for Old Rucker Farm to be recognized as a ‘Great Place’ by the Atlanta Regional Commission,” said Amanda Musilli, Community Agriculture & Sustainability Services Manager. “This award goes to the people who make it thrive and grow: the volunteers, partners, and community members who believe in the power of local food and shared learning. Old Rucker Farm represents what’s possible when a city invests in connection to the land, to each other, and to a more resilient future.”
Operated by the City of Alpharetta Recreation, Parks, & Cultural Services Department, Old Rucker Farm serves as the cornerstone of the City’s Agriculture Plan. The plan envisions “a community that creates and supports a sustainable and reliable local food system which promotes healthier living for all. Through education, opportunity, networking, and connecting resources, this plan will help the community respond to food insecurity, responsibly steward the environment, and support new and future generations.”
