Alpha Loop Extension to Connect Key Alpharetta Districts

On Monday, August 17, the Alpharetta City Council approved a $15.99 million contract with Reeves Young to design and construct a new segment of the Alpha Loop connecting Encore Parkway to Morrison Lake. This investment continues Alpharetta’s commitment to expanding its signature multi‑use trail network and enhancing connectivity within key employment and activity centers.

The Alpha Loop is a 12-foot-wide pedestrian trail system designed to provide easy access to Alpharetta’s dining, entertainment, business districts, and neighborhoods while supporting local wellness and environmental sustainability. The first completed segment debuted in 2020, and today, the trail is approximately 6 miles long.

The newly approved 1-mile extension called the “Alpha Link” will connect to the Big Creek Greenway at Encore Gateway, a park currently under construction at the intersection of Encore Parkway and North Point Parkway, through a partnership between the City of Alpharetta and True North 400. The Big Creek Greenway, part of a regional trail system spanning Roswell, Alpharetta, and South Forsyth County, includes 12 miles of scenic, multi‑use trails in Alpharetta that trace the banks of Big Creek.

Once complete, the Alpha Loop will offer a seamless connection between the North Point District and the Lakeview area, which sits just off Georgia State Route 400 and is anchored by the Lakeview mixed‑use development, the Georgia 400 Center offices, and the scenic 10‑acre Morrison Lake.

By expanding access to nature and walkable routes through major commercial corridors, the project strengthens Alpharetta’s position as a community where quality of life and opportunity intersect. The city’s extensive multi‑use trail system continues to serve as a meaningful economic driver, supporting outdoor recreation, enhancing workforce amenities, boosting talent attraction and retention, and reinforcing the city’s reputation as a thriving, connected community.

Construction on the new Alpha Loop segment is anticipated to take approximately 18.5 months.
